Digital Ship’s second Shipdex conference in Oslo on October 7th 2008 included detailed discussion about the adoption costs of electronic documentation for ships, replacing the paper manuals and drawings carried onboard which are tedious to manage, difficult to search, update, enter into a computer maintenance and purchasing system, and difficult to replace if they get lost. Everyone is in agreement on the medium term benefits, but what costs, benefits and potential hurdles need to be overcome in the short term?
